This year, things haven’t worked out so well for landscape photography for me. The weather, illness, life events, etc. got in the way. Still, the latter half of the year hasn’t been as bad. I’ve managed to capture some beautiful new landscape photos. Here today, I have another one to share. Enjoy the open range land which this area of the world is known for.
I had this shot in my head for a couple years. However, every time I tried, something didn’t work out. The horses weren’t present or in the right place, the light was terrible, I didn’t have my camera, and more. Still, I kept hoping that someday I could capture the horses against this gorgeous setting with a beautiful sky. Finally, that day came.
We suddenly had business in the area and that business coincided with sunset. I felt I should bring my camera along just in case. After all, I’d frequently and consistently seen dramatic skies and sunsets over this open range land. I really didn’t have anything to lose either. I’m so glad I acted on that thought too.
When I arrived on site, I wasn’t sure about those horses. They were close to where I wanted them but only one ended up standing within frame for me. Still, this horse was enough. I arrived in time for dramatic sunset light to make the clouds above glow. All I needed to do was stand in the right place with the right gear and snap away.
Thankfully, this horse didn’t wander far while grazing. This meant I could keep it in frame to complete the view. I couldn’t have planned things much better if I wanted to. I simply required about 2 years worth of patience and multiple attempts. Now, I can finally rest this idea with satisfaction as I look at this beautiful depiction of open range land in Utah.
