Bryce Canyon is still full of adventure and discovery for me.  There’s still many trails I haven’t walked and sights I haven’t seen.  I take the time to explore more every chance I get.  I recently made another trip out there and want to share what I found with all of you.  Check out the latest in my adventures in Bryce Canyon.

I keep going back to Bryce Canyon National Park because it is so darn close to where I live now.  It’s about a 30 minute drive away.  As a landscape photographer, why would I deliberately pass on the chance to photograph such a unique location?  It would be a bad move on my part.

Last time I want out to the canyon, rangers closed off the trail to the famous Thor’s Hammer hoodoo for repairs.  I was delighted to find that it had opened back up.  This allowed me to hike much closer to the famous rock formation and take another shot (pun intended) at it myself.

It was a steeper hike than expected to descend from the rim of the canyon down to where Thor’s Hammer resides.  However, the partially cloudy skies hid the worst of the sun and allowed for perfectly even lighting conditions where I needed it in addition to interesting skies behind the red wall of the canyon.

We then decided to check out the other half of the trail called Wall Street.  It descends down some steep switchbacks into the base of the canyon.  While we were down there, we found ourselves walking through a small slot canyon.  I didn’t know that Bryce Canyon had this going for it too.

It was a very interesting view to walk through.  I wouldn’t want to be caught down there in the middle of a rain storm.  Tourists have packed the trail so hard it’s to the point of being rock.  It’s obvious where water had passed through in the past.  This area would be dangerous in a heavy rain storm.  However, it was a pleasant hike in fair weather.

At the bottom of the trail, we encountered a tourist family and the boy was about to pick this flower.

My scout leader reflexes were still working and I found myself telling him “Don’t!” before I could stop myself.  I half expected the parents to get mad at me.  Thankfully, they didn’t.  The mother took a picture of this flower and told the boy that he could have the picture forever.

In case you didn’t already know, picking flowers in a national park is considered a big no-no here.  Had a park ranger seen that, the boy would have received a talking to for sure.

Since the flower was safe, at least for the time being, I decided that I wanted a picture of it too.  It was one of the better specimens I saw on the trail.  I also happened to have my macro lens on me so it worked out just right for me in the end.

Bryce Canyon continues to have amazing scenery and landscapes for me to photograph.  I’m sure I will have more adventures in Bryce Canyon in the near future to share.  Stay tuned.
