With the later onset of autumn colors this year, my usual portfolio additions come later as well. However, this year, I wanted something a bit different from those usual locations I’ve previously pursued. I found myself some autumn colors on a lake which I hadn’t previously explored. So, I happily present you with some beautiful new fall lake photos.
On a previous expedition in the area, I learned that this particular lake was well known for gorgeous fall colors. With the onset of such autumn colors appearing, I started thinking about where I wanted to go try out. Some of my previous haunts were a bit disappointing. I wanted something a bit fresh and new. So, I remembered about this lake and its fall colors. I made it our destination.
Once we arrived, I scouted out more than one location for a shot. After all, I wanted the best I could find. This also led me to one of the sources of lake water: a creek area. As this area is dedicated to outdoor sports, I was highly unsurprised to see both hunters and fishermen making use of the area. Also, there were plenty of other people there for outdoor recreation. This made things a bit interesting later as I set up for a shot and children kept walking across the wooden bridge I camped out on.
Upon arriving at the creek outdoor recreation area, I quickly discovered that we arrived in time for a treat. The local trout were in the creek spawning. You could easily locate several fish within the extremely shallow waters flowing. Sometimes, one or more fish decided to move and that was a splash where the fish temporarily appeared above the water level. That was a sight I’d never seen before but I’m glad I did see it for myself at least once.
I decided I wanted a view of the creek as it seemed to offer some of the best autumn color I felt I could find. After setting up, I experienced the afore mentioned problem of excited little children running back and forth on the bridge. I completely understand their excitement. However, their actions did increase my difficulty in taking a tack sharp photo of several seconds exposure. Sadly, the fish present became invisible with the several second exposure above.
After my brief adventures with the spawning fish, I decided to capture some of the fall leaves along the lake shore. After all, this was doable from the right angle. Sadly, the sky lacked serious drama in most angles. However, I did enjoy the warmth of golden hour over the lake. The setting sun was perfect for warming up those fall colors. During one of my attempts, I noticed a seagull which decided to fly around in view. I decided I wanted to add that gull for that something extra. The next trick was capturing it in focus. That took several attempts.
As a last minute attempt, I found a view with some semi-overhanging trees and a shoreline curve which seemed to meet my needs. As blue hour deepened, I captured this gorgeous seasonal view of the lake in front of me.
Overall, this was a pleasant trip out to the lake for some fall color photos. It added something a bit different a helped plug a gap in my landscape photo portfolio. I think I’ll return next year for some more color. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.
