Lately, It’s been difficult for me to get out there and get landscape photos. I’m a landscape photographer so that is what I do. However, recent events in the news caused me to avoid taking photo shoot excursions. Ok, let’s be frank. I’ve been quarantined like the rest of you and all the good places to photograph have been closed. Well, that’s changing. Here’s the first installment of post-quarantine landscape photography from me: a fisherman’s paradise.
I’ve been wanting to expand my spring photography options. I used to think that I had a lot of spring photos (which isn’t entirely wrong). However, most of them are more along the lines of macro flower photos. It’s great practice, stock photography, and branching out. It doesn’t work for landscape photography. So, I’ve been chaffing at the season getting going and me not being allowed to photograph what I want to photograph.
That all changed here recently as things have started opening up in certain states and in certain places. I’ve finally been able to go out and get landscape photos (while maintaining that social distancing). In fact, landscape photographers are actually pretty good at the social distancing while on a shoot. There’s no chance that we want our view interrupted by someone else so we tend to spread out and take the available space.
One of my first shoots has been Devil’s Creek Reservoir. This is a location I’ve shot in the past but not in the springtime. Things are different there once the snow and ice have melted off and the vegetation turns green again. However, there’s fishing there no matter the time of year. This particular day was a particularly pleasant day to be out on the lake. It was comfortable, not terribly windy, and not overly bright. The reservoir was full and the fish seemed to be biting.
I set my tripod up where I felt I had the best view of the lake around me and got to work. Over the course of my photography, I found myself listening to the people sitting next to me on the shore. Eventually I grew tired of it as it wasn’t relevant to me and ended up being more along the lines of gossip. Oh the interesting things you hear on a photo shoot.
This was a perfect off-the-cuff unplanned photo shoot which yielded me a beautiful spring landscape photo for my portfolio. It’s light. It’s bright. Also, it’s green. Tell me what you think of this fisherman’s paradise shot in the comments section below.
