Ever since I captured a gorgeous shot of Inspiration Point at Bryce Canyon earlier this year, I’ve been itching to go check out the final viewing platform of the main amphitheater at Bryce. It’s called Bryce Point. I finally got my chance to check it out and I captured this shot at the edge of the storm.
The main amphitheater has several viewing points which include Sunrise Point, Sunset Point, Inspiration Point, and Bryce Point. Each has its own unique views of the canyon. I’ve explored landscape photo opportunities at most of them except Bryce Point. It’s been closed before when I’ve tried to go. The park rangers closed the point for reasons including weather, fires, and more.
Once I got out to the national park again, I made a beeline for Bryce Point. I wanted to see what that had to offer me in the way of landscape photography. I was not disappointed. Each point, in descending order, offers bigger and better views of the scene. Bryce Point was the best view yet I have seen of the amphitheater.
As we were leaving to check out other more southern parts of the park, I had a feeling that there was something special waiting for me at Bryce Point later at sunset. I made a mental note of it.
As we were returning to leave the park, we spotted a rainbow. We started chasing that rainbow in hopes of getting it into an amazing landscape scene so I could photograph it. I remembered that there was something for me at Bryce Point. Sadly, we were too late for the rainbow when I returned to Bryce Point but there was still something amazing there for me. It was the dramatic skies, lit up by sunset, of an oncoming storm.
Even though I didn’t get the rainbow in this beautiful vista, I still managed to capture an amazing landscape photo up at Bryce Point at the edge of the storm. Sometimes, it’s the photos I capture when I’m trying for something else entirely which end up working out the best for me. This photo was certainly one such photo that day.
