Oftentimes winter brings snow and cold. It also brings drab and boring skies filled up with clouds. Sometimes, though, it brings bright days and even deep moody skies above. It’s this last one in particular which concerns us today. I bring you a new landscape photo of wintertime moodiness and the elements therein. Also, I share the short story which tells how it came to be.
Lately, we’ve received several inches of wintertime snow. It does make life difficult in certain ways. However, it also transforms the landscapes around us into winter wonderlands. The day I took this photo was a day of deep moody clouds after a fresh snowfall.
Having business which needed attending, we departed with my camera in tow just in case. I had plans to shoot another subject once our business concluded. After we finished, we were hungry. So, we found ourselves seeking out a restaurant to fill our stomachs with their food. As we pulled into the parking lot, I noticed the line of moody clouds and fog, which followed us the entire trip, continues in front of me. However, now there were a couple of evergreen trees which stood in front covered in snow.
Since we still needed to fill our stomachs, I postponed trying for the shot. But I returned to that potential landscape photo after we finished eating. It was a quick attempt as I wanted to proceed to the previously planned subject before dark.
I wanted this shot to appear as though I shot it somewhere in the wilderness rather than in the middle of a city. Perhaps it’s all about point-of-view. In this case it was. I needed to stand in the right place and use a telephoto lens to remove the light poles and other city evidence in view.
This was indeed a quick story and a quickly obtained landscape photo. However, I think it makes a great addition to my portfolio.
Now it’s your turn. What do you think of this landscape photo filled with wintertime moodiness? Please share your thoughts in the comments section below.
