This winter has been interesting when it comes to the weather.  Sometimes it snows and sometimes it blows.  However, I still needed some new winter landscape photography.  Sadly, travel becomes problematic when the snow flies.  This limits my travel radius significantly.  But things started going my way a bit recently.  I took an opportunity and it paid off with a skiff of snow to show the winter season.

I decided that I wanted to add winter photos of Kodachrome State Park to my landscape photography portfolio.  This meant traversing through some seldom traveled roads during the winter.  I didn’t not want to risk becoming stranded out in no cell service areas with no hope of rescue or assistance.  So, of course, I kept my eyes on the weather and road conditions.  Since things seemed possible, I took the risk and made the trip past Bryce and into the dead cell service area.

I was hoping for significant snow for ground cover as there’s a significant pile back at home.  However, this was not the case as I arrived at the park.  Indeed, I was surprised by how little snowfall the area retained.  In some places there was only a skiff of snow in the shady spots.  Still, it was enough to show the season.  I decided to pursue a couple scenic turnouts which I noticed on a previous visit.

The skies were not as interesting as I hoped they would be.  Still, I found ways to create some interest.  As the sun lowered in the skies, the southern clouds started lighting up a bit.  Thankfully, there were some great vistas facing that direction which I could capitalize on for landscape photography.  They even displayed that skiff of snow I so badly wanted in my photos.

There’s something special and unique about some of the monoliths and pipes or chimneys which the park features.  They really shine with glittering snow.  The monochrome contrast of dark rocks and white snow really made for this landscape photo beautiful.

So, in conclusion, I arrived in time to catch the setting sun lighting up the skiff of snow which Kodachrome had to offer.  It was certainly worth the trip out for my portfolio.  Now, on to you.  What do you think of these new landscape photos?  Do you like them?  Please leave your thoughts in the comments section below.
