Strawberry Point-It's Not Bryce Canyon

A while ago, I received a suggestion from a local for a landscape photography opportunity.  After receiving the suggestion of Strawberry Point, I added it to my list of places to visit some day.  Well, some day happened recently.  I made it out to the spot and came back with some photos.  Check out what I captured.

When I first heard the name “Strawberry Point,” I assumed that it was yet another viewpoint in Bryce Canyon.  I became doubly certain of that when I looked up pictures on the internet.  I was wrong.  It’s not part of Bryce Canyon at all.  Even though the photos suggest otherwise.  Strawberry Point is an entirely different area which happens to be close by the park.

On our way to survey lakes around Duck Creek, we happened upon the entrance to Strawberry Point.  Since it was on the list, we deviated onto that road instead.  We hoped that it would be close to the road.  Instead, it’s several miles in from the road.  Also, you travel over unimproved road for much of the trip.  Your low speed makes the trip seem longer than it really is.  Still, we made it out to the point in time for some landscape photography.

After a short 5 minute hike, we arrived at the view.  What a view!  I might capture it all in a panorama.  However, I couldn’t try that out that day.  Besides, most of the best clouds were in one place.  I set my tripod up in that location and got to work when the light was right.

While we were there, some people pulled up in a couple UTVs.  We ended up sharing the sunset with them in that we all were out on the point at the same time.  At least they were polite even if they were noisy.  They left before we did.  I squeezed in a few more photo attempts before we left as well.

The scene is just as grand as some places in Bryce Canyon.  However, you won’t find the place by traveling to Bryce.  But, if you’ve the time, Strawberry Point is certainly worth at least an hour’s visit.  You can even check out a hiking trail there.  I enjoyed my trip out there.  Also, I enjoyed coming back with a beautiful photo worthy of hanging on your wall.
