Rustic Winter

Getting wintertime landscape photos for me isn’t easy.  Still, I make every effort I can.  I’ve been blessed with the chance to get a few more lately.  I think they make great additions to my growing landscape photography portfolio.  Still, there’s a story to share and that’s what you’re here for.  So, let’s dive into some rustic winter photography.

I’ve been threatening to go back to Capitol Reef National Park for a while now.  I finally made time and made the trip.  Upon arriving, I was planning on making that trip into a scouting trip.  I wanted a good map and to check out a couple of spots which I had been seeing on the internet.  I did get the map I wanted.

As far as seeing some of the sites, I had limited time before sunset so I settled on checking out one place.  Finding that place wasn’t as straightforward as I had hoped.  However, I still came out with some beautiful photos to share.

My first and best photo of the day was one of those which I just felt like diverting for because the opportunity presented itself.  We drove up the road and I spotted this barn with horses.  I decided that I wanted to try for a shot.  Thankfully the couple there petting the painted horse were willing to move and let me get my shot.  Big thanks to them for that courtesy.  I ended up with a beautiful rustic winter photo.

I found a trail which I wanted to check out so we made our way, even over unpaved roads, to the trail head.  We set out on the trail.  Thanks to the falling light, we didn’t make it to our destination, but I managed to find another beautiful landscape scene worth shooting pictures of.   It was well worth the hike for that shot.

I just couldn’t pass on the golden light of golden hour shining on the rock faces in front of me.  The rock layers were really something to look at as I hiked forward.  The sky really set things off right.  I was sure glad I brought my camera on the trail with me because I was able to capture this shot along with the horses and barn photo.  It made the day so much more worth it for me.
