I’m still learning about new nooks and crannies for landscape photography.  Lately, I added another such place onto my list and then into my portfolio.  It was indeed quite an excursion.  I found my way to a seasonal waterfall which, thankfully, was flowing strongly at the time.

With the local agriculture, there are plenty of reservoirs which water the area.  The state of Utah often turns such reservoirs into state parks where the locals can recreate.  This is one such place.

When the spring melt fills the reservoir, the waterfalls begin.  They don’t always flow nor do they flow strongly when they do flow.  However, there is a waterfall watch which the park puts out.  The intelligence is often good for a day or 2.  So, armed with the intelligence that the waterfall was fully flowing, I made the trek out to the park.

The hike up to the falls is short, but can be a bit tricky.  It is family-friendly, however.  The first portion is mostly flat with available restrooms.  The second half is where things become a bit intense.  The hike becomes a bit steep.  You will find yourself alternately hiking though rocky soil and on short surfaces of slick rock.  I do not recommend the hike for those whose balance is questionable.  However, plenty of people make the hike easily.

Due to the popularity of the waterfall, lots of people made their way to the site.  This made things a bit difficult for me as a landscape photographer.  I didn’t want random hikers in my photos.  Also, I needed to wait for sunset.  While I waited, I searched out more than 1 vista worth shooting.

There were such options available.  When sunset came, I got to work.  Still, people kept coming and wandering about the scene.  I ended up missing out on much of the good light because local tourists where busy wandering about and standing in the scene.  It was indeed a trial of patience.  When I finally found an opening, I clicked the shutter as often as I could.

There were probably other views which I could have used.  However, I didn’t feel safe carrying my camera across some of the gaps.  I did step across a couple and captured the scenes you see here.
